If you have been one of my regular and avid readers, you must be aware of how much I am interested in direct selling network marketing businesses. Not only has being a direct seller in India allowed me to attain financial freedom and the ability to be my own boss, but it has also helped countless others in more ways than one. And ask the owner of any successful direct selling company in India and they will tell you that their success is due to the hard work and dedication of their salespersons.

So, what makes a great salesperson? Here are 10 traits of someone who can be a great salesperson.

Responsible

If you want to be a good salesperson, you should be able to accept responsibility. You should be accountable for your actions as a seller and be willing to go to the root any issue, and not try to pass the blame to others. A good salesperson should show a sense of responsibility to their team and customers. They don’t just close the deal; they are aware of its effects of their colleagues and company.

Empathy

A good salesperson needs to be empathic. He or she needs to be able to understand the issues that your customers are facing and come up with a solution for it. The ability to relate to your customer also allows you to create better bonds with them.

Determination

This goes without saying. Sales can be hard, and you might lose focus after a while. Salespersons who are more focus on their goal are self-motivated, driven and generally require less supervision. They are also generally better at multitasking and are not distracted by unimportant issues that do not need immediate attention.

Resourcefulness

The ability to think outside the box and come up with unconventional solutions are of great need when it comes to sales. With the use of imaginative techniques and ideas, you can turn a ‘no’ into a ‘maybe’, and a ‘maybe’ into a ‘yes’.

Confidence

Another trait that goes without saying, confidence is a great tool when it comes to making a sale. If you cannot come off as a confident person, how can the customer put any confidence in the product you are selling. Being confident means that you know what you are selling and that you are sure of the results. However, this does not mean that you should be arrogant or cocky.

Insight

As a salesperson, you should be willing and comfortable when it comes to moving away from established norms and standards. Customers today are smarter, better informed and will question you about your product. You should be capable of offering them what they desire.

Optimistic

We all know that rejections a big part of sales. It is easy to lose hope and give up after a few consecutive nos. Therefore, it is important that a salesperson is optimistic and persistent.

Honesty

Sadly, certain sales job has acquired the tagline of being dishonest in order to make the sale. Especially as in a direct selling business, honesty is very important as you want your customers to return. People love salespersons who come of genuine and honest.

Passionate

If you need to succeed as a direct selling network marketing business in India, you should be passionate about what you do. It is not just about making a profit, it is also about meeting new people, interacting with them and learning new things. You should be passionate about your job. But I guess this is applicable in almost all spheres of our life.

Communication

If you need to make a sale, you should be able to communicate. It does not matter if your product is the best in the world if you cannot convince your customer to try it out. This does not mean that you should always be talking. Being a great listener is also an important trait of a good salesperson. You should be able to listen to your customer and understand their needs even before they tell it to you.

Being a successful salesperson or running a successful direct selling business can be hard. And there is a chance that you will not be able to find all these traits in one single person. However, direct selling network marketing companies allow you to work as a team and succeed as a unit. Even if you do not have all the traits, you can learn, adapt, improve and succeed.
