Achieving success as a network marketing entrepreneur can be hard and confusing if you do not know what you are doing. And without years of success in the industry or going through hundreds of books and videos that are intended to help you avoid failure in the industry, how does one know what mistakes to stay clear of in the network marketing industry?

Here are some of the common mistakes people do that hold them back from becoming successful network marketing entrepreneur.

Selling products that you do not use or like

Most people who enter the direct selling business join the company because they have used the product in the past, loved it and wants to share it with others. However, there are a few who become direct seller just because they think that they will get rich quick with it. If you do not love the product that you are selling, you will not be able to convince others to spend their money on it.

Being a sheep

If you want to be successful as a direct seller or network marketer, you should think outside the box. If you use the same methods that everyone else is doing, you will soon get lost in the crowd and not be able to stand apart. While common techniques like Facebook and Instagram marketing are an essential part of being a network marketer, you should not be just confined to it. I would tell you what you can do to make yourself unique, but that would be missing the point.

Not getting adequate training

Network marketing companies pride themselves on the vast range of resources that they have for training new recruits. Before you begin selling your product, it is important that you spend time and energy in learning all that is there to learn about the product and its benefits. This will help you to come off as confident when you are pitching it to your customer and also allow you to address any concerns that they have.

Targeting the wrong audience

In network marketing, who you target and cater to is crucial. There is no point in making a campaign that is catered towards older people if you are trying to sell products that are most suited for the younger generation. The mediums that you use to advertise can also make a lot of difference when it comes to helping you to reach your target audience.

Not following up

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen other network marketers make is not following up on their prospects. People need multiple pitches and some time to think about it before they can come to an agreement. Always be sure to follow up on your prospects. However, there is a fine line between following up and becoming a nuisance.

Not retaining customers

When you pitch your product to a customer, your aim should not be just to make a sale but also to find a customer who will come back for future sales. Finding new customers can be as much as four times more expensive than retaining them. Always remember that you are not just selling a product but also the brand.

Being dishonest

There can be nothing more damaging to your brand and your network marketing business than caught telling a lie. While telling a lie may get you a sale, it can lose you ten times more in the long run. Especially in a network marketing business model where word of mouth marketing plays a huge part in marketing.

These are just some mistakes that come to mind when thinking about mistakes that network marketers should avoid to succeed in the business.
